Gardens and nature have always inspired Gillian—ever since her childhood exploring the layered woods, fields and streams of Sussex, gathering bluebells and getting muddy. Her grandfather worked as nurseryman for the Duke of Northumberland. Both her parents were keen gardeners. Not surprisingly, she followed in their footsteps right down to earning her degree in Environmental Sciences. She is passionate about sustainability and takes every opportunity to expand her knowledge.
While working for the Parks and Recreation Department of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Gillian encountered the Chelsea Flower Show. She was hooked! After moving to California in 1998, she joined her local Garden Club, qualified as a University of California Master Gardener and became a Docent at the UC Botanical Garden in Berkeley.
